Monday, Monday ...

As you may have read, we were planning to do some of Abby's experiments from Chemistry camp this week. But, it turns out they were a bit too "scientific" for me ... so we settled on a few alternate experiments. Like ... how high can Tyler actually get his hair to stand up! This was not styled for the picture! Tyler has taken to twirling his hair all the time! Abby gets a hoot out of it, because his hair is always standing straight up. At least he gets it honestly. His Uncle Aaron was a big hair twirler when he was two. And, the 70s bowl cut he sported allowed for maximum height. Not that I want to ruin his fun ... but I'm thinking of having Tyler's hair trimmed in the next day or two.

Our next science experiment on Monday was mixing up a batch of Banana Mini Muffins. We were watching Alex Harrison, so I was lucky enough to have three beaters/spatulas cleaned off after the mixing was done.
Abby and Alex had both attended Chemistry camp last week, and one of the things they talked about was chemical reactions. I made sure the girls saw how flat the muffin mix was before it baked...Then how the muffins rose in the oven ... with help from the ingredients we used! We also (finally!) broke out the solar hot dog cooker and "nuked" a dog on the deck. Abby liked how the solar-cooked one tasted, but Alex voted for the microwaved version. They split both versions as part of their "out of this world" lunch. The girls named also named the other on their plates to fit the science theme: Galactic Grapes, Jupiter Jello, Cosmic Carrots w/ Alien Slime Dipping Sauce (ranch dressing tinted with neon green food coloring), and cheese stars. Tyler, who is not much for hot dogs ... microwaved or solar cooked, had turkey. Do you know how hard it is to come up with a science item that begins with a "T?"
