Dennis told the kids they could sketch the faces they wanted on their pumpkins, so Abby helped Tyler ... asking him what shape he wanted for each feature. And, I must say, Dennis did a pretty good job making it look like their drawings.

Meet Jack!
I will try get some more photos/stories from the month of October on this blog later today and this week! I just know some of you grandparent-types want to see our little goblins in Halloween mode. So, below are photos of pumpkin carving, and following are a few posts from events on Halloween day and night. Enjoy!

Opening the pumpkin is always fascinating ... for little kids (and big ones ... I hung around for that part, then headed back inside.)
Abby is kind of a clean hand gal. But she, at least, put her hands in the pumpkin. Tyler wouldn't even do that!
The finished products. Abby's is the first one.

Our Little Superman!
Tyler's birthday party at Zoinks was a ton of fun (9/30)!
We had it a lunchtime, right after preschool, and aside from bringing a few party goods, there really weren't any preparations. Now, that's if you DON'T count the super-cute capes I decided "we" could make for all of Tyler's friends. Who knew EVERY SINGLE classmate would come ... as well as eight of their older siblings who also go to school at Advent.
Fortunately, we only (!) made 16 capes ... which were personalized with each of Tyler's friends' first initial. Nanny did the prep work (sewing the hem and prepping the shield), Mom sewed the shield on and threaded the cording, and I was the monogrammer (iron-on only I might add ... I do NOT sew, yet!) The capes were the perfect thank you gifts for Tyler's friends.
They all had such a fun time running and jumping, and little Miss Abby enjoyed herself too with all of the big brothers/sisters in attendance! Let's have another birthday! Just kidding, I'm all birthday'ed out.
The capes are hanging in the playroom ... ready for the next adventure!
Wild Birthday Morning!
Who's the Teacher's Pet?
Back on 9/29, we had our first parent-teacher conference with Abby's teacher, Mrs. Shaw. She spent tons of time with me, telling me how well Abby had done so far ... AND on top of it all, the kids got to help feed Sydney (you could say he is the "Teacher's Pet!" HA!). Now that was a treat - Tyler LOVED touching the worms!

Our Daily Routine
Tyler and I have gotten into a routine now. Every day, we get to Roberts around 1:45 (give or take) and park at the far end of the parking lot to wait for the students to be dismissed. When we see Abby's class (Kindergarten always comes out first ... even before the 2:00 p.m. ending time), we walk up to get her. But, usually we have time to read a book or two in the back seat (or truck ... glad I suggested that one time, huh?) of the car before Abby joins us. Tyler just loves this. He's at such a fun age (when he's not in a mood!) and just loves being my pal. Our "parking spot" is also right near the Roberts Garden, so we regularly check in on the vegetables and flowers growing there.
Here's Tyler in waiting mode ... right after a haircut (doesn't he look dapper?)
When we come home, it's off to nap for Tyler ... and Abby and I "do snack" and catch up about her day. I usually get all of the good stories in the afternoon, so I take mental notes for Dennis and stack up the treasures and projects she brings home for "show and tell" during dinner. One day, she came home with this "anatomy apron."
Would you believe, they've been learning about every part of the body. This girl knows the technical names for all parts of the brain, our bones (she can name ones like the "clavicle" and "scapula"), etc., etc. Dennis has to comment regularly that he doesn't think he even knew how to write his name at this age ... I think he's remembering wrong, but Kindergarten is pretty cool now. Funny story about the anatomy apron. Abby was so excited to show it off when it came out of the backpack, but there was a slight problem with her brain ... it wasn't hers!
I really tried not to lose it, but I couldn't help but chuckle when she kept saying (over and over) "This is not my brain. I lost my brain!" (Hey, Abby - I lose my mind every day!) Apparently, Ricky's brain made it's way into Abby's cubby at backpack-stuffing time. Serious problem for a 5-year old, I know! I'll try to keep it together from now on. She might cut me off on the details of her day!
Speaking of Spirit ...
I'll try to keep this one short, but I've laughed about it quite a bit recently. Back in 1995, when I transferred to FSU from Miami of Ohio, Aaron helped me get "in the game" by taking me to my first Seminole football match up. Having spent two years at a school where football was NOT king, I thought nothing of my wardrobe choice for that first game (see below). But Aaron was appalled. I told him I sincerely doubted that lots of people would be wearing garnet and gold. Well, I was wrong of course. I soon discovered that having school spirit was cool at FSU!
Fast forward to 2008. At Abby's elementary school, every Friday is Spirit Day. Well, we bought the Roberts t-shirt, but she had already wore it to the Zoinks event and something else. "Why wear it again?" I asked Abby on the first Friday of school. "I sincerely doubt everyone will be wearing the school colors ... let's just put another cute dress on you," I said. Well, AGAIN I was wrong. When we pulled up at car drop off, EVERYONE was wearing green. Oops! Sorry Abby! I've learned my lesson. Rest assured, we do put the green t-shirt on her every Friday now.
Halloween Shopping
Note to Self: do NOT take the children into the Halloween store next year! I've never laughed so hard ... while simultaneously feeling like an awful mom! The kids were begging me to take them to the Halloween store (that takes over space in a strip mall for the season), so I gave in one weekend. They said they would be brave, but they were ALL talk. As soon as we got through the door, both were clinging to me for dear life. In fact, I don't think Tyler removed his head from my shoulder the whole time we were there. Even though I had a few items on my list to look for, we had to spend our entire visit in the "not as scary" children's costume section. When we left, I had Abby's face buried in my leg, and Tyler clawing at my shoulder. Both were screaming about the ghoulish sculptures that line the entrance. I was appreciative that some teenagers held the door open for us as we ran out! And, wouldn't you know ... as I opened the door to the car, they were both begging me to let them peek back in the windows of the store. Kooky kids! Trick-or-treating on Friday should be some fun! The weird things that happen here...
I would say it's not uncommon to see Tyler doing something like this.
Who doesn't like to be entertained on the potty! And Abby, well she was pretending to be a ghost ... in ONE leg of my white capri jeans! My whole daughter in one leg of my jeans ... that makes me want to hit the gym in a major way!

Hunting for Spirithunters!
I think this might have been from the second home game, but it was cute ... so I had to post it. Tyler and I had been talking about Seminole warpaint at some point the week before the game, so when we were at the stadium that Saturday, he knew he MUST have his face painted by a Lady Spirithunter. But, wouldn't you know, we couldn't find one! After searching high and low, we happened across a nice young lady who made Tyler look like a true Seminole fan!
Tailgating in Style
The next day (9/20), we pulled our resources and tailgated before the Wake Forest game. Thanks to our good friends, the Watsons, we had a great spot in a fun lot. And, mom really outdid herself with the spread.
One of the main reasons we organized the tailgate was to wish Aaron's good friend, Hardee Bass, well with his upcoming marriage (Aaron participated in Hardee's bachelor weekend!), our tailgate was attended by a lot of little kids. And they were big fans of the the pinata from the party the night before.
We ended up with quite a crowd: some of Aaron's friends, some of Abby's friends, some of Dennis' friends he hadn't seen for awhile. We were even lucky enough to visit with Stephanie and Jinsue Park and their cute twins. Jenn got to catch up with Steph a bit more than I did, but I'm hoping to get to spend some time with Steph soon. Maybe a trip to Atlanta is in order!

The Joys of Toys!
What would a party be without presents?! Tyler was super excited to open gifts at the pool. He expecially liked his alphabet train puzzle from Nanny. When he and Abby worked on it the next day, it stretched all across the kitchen! Over the past month, this puzzle has become a favorite. Tyler just gets hung up on the letters in the middle of the alphabet. We may hear "L-M-N-O," but I truly think he thinks it's all one letter "elamano!" I'm sure he'll get it soon!
Tyler is all about trains, but the other big request this year was for a fire truck. Aaron gave him a big truck that knocked his socks off, and Grammy and Grandan outfitted Ty with the firefighter getup. Both are still favorites, but the fire truck is seriously wearing a track in our carpet. Every night around dinnertime (because that's when we're the most cool, calm and collected and are not trying to accomplish ANYTHING right!) he starts his "laps!" Tonight, I think he made 20 or so, until I told him he HAD to stop. On the carpet is fine, but when the truck rounds the bend onto the kitchen tile, the racket is so loud I can't hear myself think!

Uncle Aaron - Party Planner
When we learned that Tyler's birthday was the week after the last of three home football games, we figured an early birthday celebration was in order. Uncle Aaron, who wishes he could be up here for more family celebrations, took this opportunity to throw Tyler a really cool party at the SouthWood pool (9/19). Knowing his birthday party with school friends was a Superhero theme, Tyler made a last-minute request for a shark theme. I was able to get The Cake Shop to change the cake decoration, and Aaron pulled through big time with decorations and more! I think I'll let Aaron throw all of our family parties from now on ... even though we might not be allowed back at the SouthWood pool (ever!) Aaron had very loud party horns, and his signature silly string. Good thing we waited until Saturday's tailgate to break the pinata!
Meredith sent these yummy kid treats up with Aaron. Story goes she attempted to write Tyler's name with some kind of syrup, but it didn't survive the trip, so Aaron made it work with Skittles!
Fun with Uncle A in the H2O!

Anyone remember Tyler's antics at Abby's 4th birthday party? Well, Abby wasn't really sneaking here, but she tried to get him back by "tasting" HIS cake!
So long SouthWood pool (we're not really being kicked out ... I don't think!) - the season is over, we'll see you next summer! Thanks Aaron for a great party!
