Okay ... quick ... what day of Christmas is it? YES ... it's still Christmas! Now, will you catch me putting the tree and all the other decorations back up? NO way! But, I learned (re-learned?) something this year ... in fact, we all did. You could say we had an Epiphany! We learned that the Twelve Days of Christmas (the ones we sing about each year) are the number of days between Christmas Day and Three Kings Day, or Twelfth Night, when the wise men reached Baby Jesus in Bethlehem. The celebration of Epiphany is actually January 6th, but our church did it today. This afternoon, our kids joined dozens of others at our church for an Epiphany Pageant. Tyler played an elephant (no camel costumes available I guess) and Abby was part of the choir of angels.
Abby did LOOK like a perfect little angel ...
... but she got a bit squirrelly while waiting for the performance to begin. You could say she had Tyler in a "trunk lock" here!
Whatever you do ... don't comment on Tyler's appearance! Without a nap under his belt, Ty grew a bit indignant when everyone kept calling him "a cute elephant!" Here, Dennis is trying to calm him down as he was saying, "I am NOT cute!"
Oh buddy, you kinda were! Ty was the youngest participant there (by far), and Abby said the robe I had to fashion into an elephant suit (the costumes they had were twice his size) made him look like a wise man with an elephant head! Good thing he lost the pout and turned on the charm when the pageant began, leading the whole group down to the altar for the story of Christmas and several carols.
Abby took her job very seriously. Good thing she was one of the smaller girls, so she was in front when they were on stage. She couldn't see the other "angels" behind her, raising their wands (and almost putting an eye out I might add!) to see who could get theirs highest in the air! Kids will be kids!
Dennis says word on the street is Tyler could land the part of Joseph, IF he puts in his time as a barnyard animal for the next few years. Joseph is THE big role you know (aside from baby Jesus!) ... here he is with Mary, giving high fives on the way back down the aisle!
I would say Tyler seems pretty content to be an elephant!
Merry Christmas All ... for the last time until December 2009. It HAS been a very merry season for us. Looking forward to a fun new year!

Anna was actually born on an Italian National Holiday, 3 Kings Day! It is the day that most kids get presents from La Befana, the old lady who didn't have time to join the WIse Men on their way to see Baby Jesus because she had to finish her chores. Now she goes around bringing presents to all the children still looking for the Christ Child. It would be fun to keep this Italian tradition, but too much to do on a birthday! Thanks for the cute photos!
