The kids and I returned last night from a wonderfully tiring visit in Myrtle Beach with Grammy, Grandan and the Gradeks. The weather was beautiful, so we spent pretty much every moment on the beach and in the pool. This photo was taken on the last day of our visit (notice the "Hi Abby + Tyler" sign Grandan labored over). It shows a very small portion of the beach belonging to the Gradek's condo. Every morning, a single lifeguard would spend hours setting up dozens and dozens of beach chairs and umbrellas ... knowing she would have to take them down again that afternoon. What a tough job!
Our job ... playing in the sand and water ... was much easier! Tyler and Abby were NOT at all shy about hitting the surf immediately. They do love the water! And, Tyler is a big fan of bodysurfing ... thanks to Buzzy, who dubbed Tyler "Super Surfer!"

Tyler even learned the fine art of sand "dribbling" or "drizzling" ... taught to me by the Gradek girls, Kara and Marisa, nearly 30 years ago.
Marisa (along with her husband, Ryan) was actually there for part of our time at the beach, but Kara (and her husband, Chuck, and baby, Kyle) had left earlier on the day we arrived. Here are Buzzy and Marisa getting caught up on some beach reading.
Angie and Grammy didn't plan their matchy-matchy polka dot bathing suits. Maybe this just happens when you've been friends for many years!
Above, Grandan enjoyed a hug with Abby ... then joined the rest of the sunbathers for some quiet time.
The kids and I opted for some fun in the sand ... in the "Carricato Crater," crafted by Grandan. For awhile, it was collecting water, but the sun soaked it all up. Magic!
Abby and Tyler found the sand fascinating in general. Abby was testing the difference between the wet and dry sand ... then, after hanging out and making sand angels in some water that collected during low tide, they decided a mud fight was in order! Kids will be kids, huh?

Maybe that's what prompted Tyler to dip his head into these buckets of sand, shells and water. He thought it was SO funny when the water dripped down his face!
It's a good thing grandparents are game for goofy behavior. Grammy and Grandan were awesome to let us tag along on their visit with these good family friends. And, the Gradeks were SO gracious to host our circus! What a nice way to end the summer. Just over a week until Abby starts kindergarten!
