How did Wednesday's Dino Day come to be? Well, it started with plans to attend a storytime at the Tallahassee Little Theatre. The theme was Dinosaurumpus...

So we started brainstorming other ways to make the day "dino-ish," and came up with several. Unfortunately, we ended up missing the storytime because Tyler was feeling under the weather (me too!) and took a VERY early nap. Despite Abby's suggestions that I just "put him in the car, and have him sit on my lap" at the program, I decided to let him sleep! Have no fear! Even with our sickness, we were able to get some fun dino activities in. We made dinosaur feet out of paper bags and the kids stomped through the house ...

Then, dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets stomped all over their plates at lunch. That's a noodle "nest" with grape "dino eggs," and the "mud" is ketchup tinted with a bit of food coloring. Speaking of which, I'm running low on several of my colors. Grammy suggested this was due to the fact that I use food coloring for EVERYTHING!

When we were at the zoo on Tuesday, we found some "grow-your-own" dino capsules. The kids had a great time guessing which dinosaur sponge shape was emerging. Of course, we had to divide them evenly, and Abby won the prize for having dinosaur names that were the most difficult to pronounce. "Schnittker" is a breeze compared to "Pachycephalosaurus!"

Then we used the sponge shapes to decorate headbands made from the remaining parts of the bags I used for their dino feet.

We also shaped dinosaurs out of Play-Doh, and were headed outside to the driveway to map out a dino's size compared to a human, when Tyler needed his nap. Dennis even got in the game and insisted on showing the kids some of the tamer portions of Jurassic Park. Abby wanted to keep watching, but I know she couldn't have handled it. We're talking about kids that mainly see "G-rated" movies. But Dennis is just counting the days until he can share his favorite flicks with the kids!

We capped off Dino Day by watching Tyler's stuffed dino "hatch" from the egg we fashioned for him early that morning. Our name brainstorming session produced many possibilities (Tyler voted for Chachi and Dan), but Roxy was the winner. A fun day in all ... now we just have to go to the library and pick up the copy of Dinosaurumpus that we put on hold!
