Indiana Corn

"Indiana" Corn ... not the kind of corn you find in one particular midwestern state ... but rather what Tyler calls Indian corn! Isn't that funny? I have to record these little mispronunciations now, because next year he'll probably say it correctly. We've already lost "smarsh"mallow ... one of my favorites. But, he still says "aminal" instead of "animal." Is it wrong that I don't correct him?

Our Wacky FOUR-year Old

This little video was recorded in the waiting room at Tyler's doctor's office, when we went for his four-year wellcare appointment at the beginning of October. I have had this little flipcam for Coke since mid-September, but for some reason, I've never tried downloading (and then uploading) any of the videos. This is a little experiment. Eventually, I guess I'll change the date on this post so it appears in our lists of posts for 10/6/09 ... you know, part of that vast window of time when I wasn't posting ANYTHING!?! Anyway, do enjoy Tyler's wackiness! And, by way of explanation - they have kids try to do "big boy" tests for the first time at the four-year visit. You'll see what I'm referring to ...

Raggedy Abby and the Ty-Rex

Oh, there's so many fun things you can call Tyler in this costume, but my favorite is our little "Tyler-rannosaurus Rex." And, of course, the mopped-head one is Raggedy Abby. Didn't they look precious on Halloween!?!I think this will, unfortunately, be the last year we can dress Tyler in some sort of fuzzy, one-piece animal costume. Lots of his friends were superheroes, monsters, etc. But, Ty was definitely game for this outfit ... and he played the part the whole time.
Abby just LOVED her costume! The Nanny/Grammy/Mandy costume design team prevailed ... despite a few glue gun burns (that thing is a monster!) Abby insisted upon wearing her wig the whole night. THANK GOODNESS! And we seriously are taking suggestions about wear she can wear this outfit again. Can she double as Holly Hobby? A Little House on the Prairie girl? What ... she has no idea who those people are? I am SO old! Dennis, although older than me I might add, decided he too would join the dress-up party on Halloween night. He went as a Jurassic Park Dino Hunter. To give him a bit of credit, Dennis pulled this together at the last minute, and I think he looks cute!I considered being Raggedy Mandy (a take off of Raggedy Andy) to accompany Abby, but I ran out of time. So, I was just "I've run myself Raggedy Mandy!"Abby would have trick-or-treated all night long, but Tyler tired out pretty easily. Good thing we passed by our house, so I grabbed the wagon. One problem - it became home to *mostly* empty beer bottles (the adults doing), and Tyler had to prop his feet up so he didn't come home smelling like a brewery!
What a fun Halloween! Can't we arrange it so these kids don't grow up?

Happy Halloween

We'll be hitting the neighborhood soon for some kid-friendly trick-or-treating, but last night, Dennis and I got to dress up. It had to be a costume starting with the letter "F," so we went as the Swine FLU. As you can see on our nametags, we were "H1" and "N1," respectively. Oh sure, we dressed up for the evening; we may LOOK charming ... but the Swine Flu is the party guest you hope won't show up! Never fear! We told everyone ... if we're annoying you, there's a way to get rid of us ... have a flu SHOT! We brought the H1N1 vaccine and medicine dosage cups to boot! These pictures were actually taken early in the evening ... but let me assure you, we didn't look quite as put together as the night wore on. Dennis administered a few too many flu shots to HIMSELF! Be sure to ask him how early they got to the FSU game today. Not too early! We brought all kinds of anti-bacterial products as props (or maybe that was just a front for me ... I DO like having sanitizing wipes on hand at all time you know!) ... and I pulled an Aaron by brining silly string and silly putty to use when giving sticky, flu-like handshakes! Okay ... round two now! Tyler is going to transform himself into a "Tyler-ranosaurus Rex" and Abby will become Raggedy Ann. Let me just go on the record as saying, she better wear the HECK out of this costume tonight and many other times this year (I welcome ideas people!) ... because of the number of hours Nanny, mom and I have dedicated to it! As you know, Nanny made the costume itself, and I labored over the wig ... sewing and glueing galore! I *think* it looks like Raggedy Ann. Can't wait to show Abby when she gets home in a minute! Happy Halloween All!

Roberts "Fall Party"

They can't call it Halloween, or a costume parade in school ... so at Robert's it the "Fall Party." I just love the theme Abby's class came up with for the "book character parade" - Junie B. Jones: Shipwrecked. The kids put on a play like the children in the book ... telling the story of Columbus and his quest for America on the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Looks like Abby is at the helm of the Santa Maria! They also made "water" and one little girl was "the land." I fashioned the sailor hats out of newspaper LATE the night before, as we had just returned from Sanibel.
But I also got to help with the party ... assisting the kids with the assembly of "spider pops," and decorated gourds. Such fun!

Last Sunrise in Sanibel

Sorry all of you faithful blog visitors ... it was not easy to blog while in Sanibel (too many other fun things to do!) But I will leave you with these beautiful shots of our last morning here this year. Today, as Dennis and I packed up all of our gear, and Tyler got his beauty sleep (he needed it!), Abby and Grandan headed to the beach to enjoy the sunrise. Oh yeah, Starla the "not stuffed" tiger was there too! Lucky tiger! She got to enjoy a beautiful sight. We had such a great time here ... just wish Grammy had been able to join us as well! But, Nanny was appreciative that she stayed in Orlando. It turns out Nanny did have a case of Pnemonia, and she spent the majority of the week in the hospital. While they're keeping her hydrated and fed (a disgusting low-sodium diet she'll tell ya!) it's not where Nanny really wants to be. But we're glad she's been cared for and will be feeling better soon.

More pictures from Sanibel soon! It's 9:15 a.m. here and we're hitting the road!

Sanibel 2009: Biking

"On a bicycle built for two!" ... we loved singing that song as we pedaled along the streets of Sanibel on our tandem bike. Abby had a blast as co-pilot. Meanwhile, Tyler got QUITE comfortable in the trailer we rented for the other bike.
I still can't believe he slept that way on our final bike ride of the week. We tried to bike a little each day ...
